realised that i must brush up on my mandarin pretty badly, keep getting lost in the middle of conversations regardless how hard i concentrate and stare at their mouths hoping to catch the words. and i used to think my mandarin was good! darn. more newspapers and watching mandarin news for me. haha, i hope..

new year part II

with an entire week for holiday here during new year, we still had time to spare after our harbin trip. so the next day, the 3 girls went to 龙华寺. the oldest temple in shanghai and its interesting how they converted the entire area into a touristy place. mummy! i went to pray for everyone during new year :)

a human hamster running wheel thing. they put the children in the ball and blow it up. and there were more than 30 adults standing around while the kid ran in the ball and fell time and again. pretty hilarious.
the pagoda outside the temple. so poserish against such a traditional setting.

my little potato looking boy. what many people tried to do inside the temple was to throw a coin into a pagoda looking thing as seen from the centre. somehow, mr potato liked the coins so much he would run whenever he heard a coin drop. but he was dressed so thickly that when he leaned forward to pick it , he'll threaten to roll over. i had to drop a coin to entice him over, it felt like i was negotiating with him. notice the coin between the 2 of us.

the wishing tree.we all really want our wishes. and mine hooked on the first try :) good sign for the year!

after the temple, we went to the mausoleum where they commerated the people who died during the cultural revolution.

a picturesque park

pandas / monkeys in the bamboo. the things we do to entertain ourselves.

happy new year!

Day 1. made our way to the ice world, where everything's entirely made out of ice. i felt my fingers turn to frozen stumps cos i intelligently left my gloves in the hotel.

our horse carriage driver and the 3 ladies, wenjie, charlene and me! the smile's a little frozen cos the whole face is stiff already. ahahDay 2. had to wake at 6 for the 3.5 hours ride to Ya Pu Li, the ski resort in harbin. my first attempt at skiing!! looked cool but the legs ached like nobody's business.top: my coach, teaching me new poses to look good.
bottom: with charlene, haojie and charlene. me and the little hill to ski down

next up, we took the ride to the top to play some metal slide thing. it was super cool.
the metal slide had 48 turns and bends and you could control the speed you wanna drive at. ahah the girls got thrown out of the seat because they refused to brake.day 3: city tour and park excursions
russian used to occupy harbin hence many of their architecture reflects russian style. this is sofitel church, which got burnt before.
sun island where every sculpture is made from natural snow.
bottom: naked lady and the 3 of us squashed in a pumpkin house.

and thats the end of our snowy tour in harbin!
